List of Sigma elevator fixtures

This is a list of elevator fixtures used in Sigma elevators, as well as Otis elevators in South Korea.

2001 to early 2010s

First batch (2001 to 2012)

These are the fixtures used in early Sigma elevators from 2001 until the mid 2000s. They are several variations of button but some of them have been discontinued in the early 2010s.

Rectangular buttons

These buttons were originally made by LG Elevators in the late 1990s, and production was carried over to LG-OTIS after Otis bought LG's elevator division (LG Industrial Systems) in 1999. When Sigma was formed in 2001, the company began using these buttons. These buttons are rounded rectangular with braille and both an illuminating halo and number. Early buttons had only an illuminating halo.

Sigma made two versions of these buttons. The first one is a surface mounted button that comes with braille marks, and the second one is a flush mounted button with or without braille marks. Both versions were commonly used in older Sigma Di (Distributed Inverter) elevators, as well as modernization of older GoldStar elevators. The flush mounted version was also used in older Sigma Iris elevators from the mid 2000s until the early 2010s.

Depending on the type of car station, the type of alarm button used may vary. If the car station has a black capacity plate (where the alarm button, intercom speaker and direction indicators are located), the button is a silver round. If the car station does not have the plate, the button is the same as the other buttons but it is yellow instead.

Round buttons

These are round convex buttons with red illuminating lamp in the middle. The alarm button is round silver, and it is found on the capacity plate. They were also used in the American Sigma elevators in the United States and Puerto Rico, which have been modified to include braille plates next to the buttons to meet ADA codes.

Square buttons

These buttons look just like the round convex buttons except they are square. They have a tiny red lamp on the top left corner of the button, as well as red illuminating number/symbol in the middle.

Floor indicators

Sigma used 10-segment display which light up either red or orange for the floor indicators. The floor indicator on the car station is a rectangular display above the capacity plate. The two directional arrows, which are orange illuminating triangles, can be on the floor indicator itself or on the capacity plate below the indicator. By 2005, LED dot matrix indicators with a scrolling arrow became available.

Second batch (mid 2000s to 2012)

This batch of fixtures was launched in the mid 2000s and has a slightly different design. It was used in the newer batch of Sigma Di elevators, as well as Sigma Solon and MUSE MRL elevators produced from the mid 2000s until at least 2012. Some modernization of older GoldStar elevators under this brand also used these fixtures. These fixtures use a yellow round or rectangle alarm button found on the capacity plate.

Round silver buttons

These are round silver buttons with braille marks and orange illuminating halo and number/symbol.

Rectangular buttons

These buttons are the same as the ones used in early Sigma elevators, except that they are surface mounted. For car stations with black capacity badge, the color of the alarm button has been changed from silver to yellow.

White buttons

These are white rectangular buttons with a chrome frame and black marking in the middle. They illuminate white when pressed.

Floor indicators

Sigma redesigned the floor indicator display on the car station by making them rectangular and vertical, with a tall white capacity plate attached under the indicator. These indicators can use either 16-segments or LED dot matrix display with a scrolling arrow.

Sigma also made another type of floor indicator display on the car station which is rectangular, and does not attached with the capacity plate. This design is based on the first batch floor indicator design.

Overhead floor indicators

Sigma made many styles of overhead floor indicators, which are installed above the hall and/or car doors. Most of these indicators use 12 and 10-segments display, but there are a few which use LED dot matrix display with a scrolling arrow. A few of these are actually remake of the original 1980s-1990s GoldStar/LG indicators.

HID-A122/CID-10/CID-10X

This is a modular digital floor indicator that is shaped like a speed bump. HID-A122 is a hall floor indicator while CID-10 is a car floor indicator. CID-10X is a version that comes with LED dot matrix display.

CID-11

This is a remake of the 1980s-1990s GoldStar above door floor counter display, featuring a 16-segments display.

CID-12

This is a square digital car floor indicator above the landing door.

HID-A132/HID-C132

This is a remake of the original 1990s GoldStar and LG hall floor indicator. It has a slanted digital display in the middle along with two flat displays on the sides where the arrow would be shown. Sigma made two different versions of this indicator; the first one is HID-A132 which is mounted on a transom panel, and the second one is HID-C132 which is usually mounted on the wall. Some GoldStar and LG modernizations, however, may have HID-C132 mounted on the transom panel.

HID-A152

This is an oval-shaped hall floor indicator with simple arrows. There is a staircase-like line connecting the two arrows.

VMD

This is a dot-matrix indicator mounted above the door which displays the current position using either a scrolling text or an emulated analog indicator-like display. Sometimes, this is also used to display scrolling information/announcements alongside the current position.

VMD stands for Visual Message Display.

Hall lanterns

Sigma made several different types of hall lanterns. Most of them light up orange, but some also light up green for up and red for down.

HLV-C08

These are remake of the original 1990s GoldStar and LG lanterns. They light up orange, but those in Hong Kong light up green for up and red for down.

HLV-630

Similar to HLV-C08 but has a translucent triangular arrow in the middle.

HLV-C11

This is a vertical hall lanterns with tilted lenses.

HLV-C48

These are hall lanterns consists of square lens and they light up orange.

HLV-C48X

Similar to HLV-C48 but has an LED dot matrix floor indicator under the lanterns.

American fixtures

The fixtures used in the American Sigma elevators, which are found in the United States and Puerto Rico, are similar to the ones used in Asia. They used the round convex buttons, with the illuminating number in the middle replaced with a dot lamp except for the landing and door control buttons. In addition, braille plates are placed next to the buttons to meet ADA codes. For the landing floor indicator, it used the HID-C132 series which is mounted on the wall. There are also car lanterns installed on the door jambs inside the elevator. These fixtures were discontinued when Sigma's American distributor, CemcoLift (a subsidiary of Otis), went out of business in 2011.

2012 to current

When Sigma launched their new Iris NV (ACRA since 2019), Solon NV (Solon Premium since 2019), Muse NV and Iris 3 elevators in 2012, Sigma updated their fixtures with a few revisions. Several button, indicator and hall lantern variants were removed from the lineup, new chimes were introduced (this except the installations in Hong Kong, which using the chime provided by Tonic Electronic Engineering instead), and most of the floor indicators began to adopt LED dot matrix display. Possibly in 2015, the 16-segments display, which have been used by Sigma for more than 10 years, was completely dropped from the lineup and replaced with LED dot matrix display.

Rectangular buttons

Sigma continued on making these buttons.

Round metallic buttons

These are the same as the ones used from the mid 2000s until the early 2010s.

White rectangular buttons

These are white rectangular buttons that light up entirely when pressed.

Floor indicators

These indicators are basically the same as the ones used from the mid 2000s until the early 2010s, featuring orange or red LED dot matrix display. In possibly 2015, the 16-segments display was removed from the indicator option.

Overhead floor indicators

CIX-10

This is a newer CID-10 modular car floor indicator.

CIX-13

This is a long rectangular car floor indicator with LED dot-matrix.

HIX-A162/HIX-C162

This is a hall floor indicator similar to CIX-13. HIX-A162 is a transom mounted type, except HIX-C162.

Fixtures used in ACRA, Solon Premium and Muse NV elevators

These fixtures consists of Otis/Xizi Otis's BR27A(B) concave buttons with blue or red illuminating halo and LCD indicators with segmented numbers. The call stations are shaped cylindrical with the buttons positioned on each ends, and sometimes they can have an LCD indicator in between the buttons. These fixtures were initially available for Sigma Solon NV (now Solon Premium) and Muse NV MRL elevators but they are now available for the ACRA (formerly Iris NV) elevators. They are based on the fixtures used in the Otis Gen2 Dynamic elevators in South Korea.

Different fixtures used in ACRA elevators

These fixtures consist of buttons with white tactile and halo, and featuring floor indicators in large rectangular panels.

MiniTouch

MiniTouch is a fixtures lineup made of black tempered glass featuring touch sensitive call stations, touch screen car stations and LCD floor indicators. This is the only Sigma elevator fixtures having an official name. It received the iF Design Award in 2009[1].

Fixtures from Otis/Xizi Otis

Main article: List of Xizi Otis elevator fixtures

These are only found in Otis/Xizi Otis rebranded (by Sigma) elevators in Asia. It is unknown if these fixtures are still offered for the current batch elevators[2].

Suzhou Express fixtures

These fixtures are based on Suzhou Express elevators in China. They have stainless steel square buttons with white illuminating halo, and Otis Series 1-style floor indicator display with Kone KDS-like LED dot matrix display. These fixtures are extremely rare, and som far very few have been discovered in Indonesia and Thailand.

Fixtures used in EMRL1000 and freight elevators

These fixtures are only used in the Sigma EMRL1000 (now discontinued)[3] and unnamed freight elevator models[4]. The buttons are round stainless steel with blue light and the floor indicator is an LCD display with white segmented characters.

Non-proprietary fixtures

Dewhurst

In Hong Kong, most Sigma elevators installed in the Public Housing Estate blocks built by Hong Kong Housing Authority use Dewhurst fixtures with US90-15 push buttons and Vandal Resistant Indicators [5]. Some elevators in private buildings are also using Dewhurst fixtures. Dewhurst chassis are also provided[6]. The Sigma branded Otis elevators (Sigma Muse and Muse NV) in Hong Kong also used with those fixtures as well[7][8][9][10].

In Singapore, most Sigma elevators installed in HDB blocks under Lift Upgrading Programme use Dewhurst's US90-15 push buttons and LED floor indicator above the door.

Shanghai STEP

Some Sigma elevators in Thailand and Singapore, particularly newer home elevators installed in Housing and Development Board (HDB) blocks under Lift Upgrading Programme are using Shanghai STEP fixtures. These fixtures mostly consists of EB111 push buttons and orange LED square dot-matrix indicators.

E.M.C.C.

Some Sigma elevators in Thailand use E.M.C.C.'s EBS-1 series buttons from South Korea[11]. The LED and LCD floor indicators are made by Sernta.

Vander

Some Sigma elevators in Hong Kong use Vander LED dot matrix floor indicator.

Other non-proprietary components

Other than the non-proprietary fixtures above, most of the Sigma elevators in Hong Kong installed on or before 2015 were using the China Electronics Service floor announcement unit and sometimes floor indicators[12], Klaxon Sonos Electronic Sounder also used in the new installations. Since 2016, Sigma Hong Kong also becomes the subsidiary of Otis in Hong Kong. The non-proprietary components are now mainly supplied by Tonic Electronic Engineering[13][14].

Chimes and beeps

In the early 2000s, Sigma Di elevators use chimes which sounds once for upward and twice for downward. These chimes were originally introduced by LG Elevators in the very late 1990s. By mid 2000s, these chimes were modified to sound louder than the original[15]. Some elevators may use a high or low-pitched version of these chimes.[16]

Sigma Iris and Solon elevators have different chimes which consists of two stage chime for up travel and four stages for down travel[17]. Some Sigma freight elevators may use Samil Eltec chimes.

With the introduction of Iris NV and Solon NV around 2012, a new version of two and three-stage chimes were introduced, sounding very similar to some SJEC elevators[18][19]. Sigma Muse NV elevators use different one and two-stage chimes, which sound very similar to chimes used by Kone.

Since the late 2010s, some Sigma elevators may use a chime very similar to the one used in Otis Gen2 elevators.

From 2001 up until the introduction of new models around 2012, almost every Sigma elevators have beeping floor buttons when pressed. Since then, this beep is only commonly heard in modernizations and very rarely in new installations. In the United States, this beep is used as the floor passing chime. The beep can be of a slightly different semitone for each elevator.
