Destination Oriented Allocation System (or Destination Oriented Prediction System, DOAS, DOAS-S, known in Japan as ELE-NAVI[1]) is Mitsubishi Electric's destination dispatch system. It was launched in 2002 when the ΣAI-2200 elevator group control system was introduced. In 2010, the system was upgraded into ΣAI-2200C.

Description

Mitsubishi DOAS-S allocates passenger to cars depending on destination floors. When a passenger enters a destination floor, the hall operating panel indicates which car will serve. Because the destination floor is already registered, the passenger does not need to press car button. Furthermore, dispersing passengers by destination prevents congestion in cars and minimizes time. With DOAS-S, the passenger enter the destination floor in the elevator lobby and then board the assigned elevator, and the rest are completely automatic. The system has the advantages of reducing travel time and enhancing usability for passengers at halls and in cars.

DOAS-S is also available for modernization of existing/older Mitsubishi Electric elevator installations[2]. Note that the system does not applies for modernization of existing elevators from manufacturers other than Mitsubishi.

System configurations

Like any destination dispatch elevators other than Schindler's systems, the DOAS has two hall arrangement configurations:

  • Hybrid: Hall operating panels are installed only on the busiest floor such as the main floor or a restaurant floor, while other floors have conventional call buttons. It is generally useful for improving traffic leaving from the busiest floor and heavy up-peak traffics. Handicap mode is supported only on the main floor where keypads are present.
  • Full: Hall operating panels are installed on all floors. This configuration is useful for improving more complex traffic conditions in the building. Handicap mode is supported.

Security gate integration

DOAS can also be integrated with security gates to reduce congestion in the elevator lobby and improve building security. When the card is tapped onto the reader found in the security gate, the destination floor will be instantly registered and the person can go straight to the elevator without having to enter his/her destination again in the elevator lobby. An RFID card for the elevator can be linked with the building security card to allow a movement in the building with a single card. It blocks out access to unauthorized person if the card is passed over from one person to another. It is very similar to Schindler PORT.

The first DOAS system in the world integrated with security gates was installed at ThePlaza Office Tower in Jakarta, Indonesia, in 2009[3].

Application

DOAS is currently available as an optional feature in the Mitsubishi NexWay, NexWay-S (Series IP/AP Version 2, Series-IP and Package R), NEXIEZ-MR, NEXIEZ-MRL and Elenessa Series-IP Version 2. It is also available for modernization of existing/older Mitsubishi elevators with ELEMOTION (for low to mid rise) and NexWay Modernization (for high speed high rise) solution. Note that DOAS for modernization only applies for older elevators manufactured by Mitsubishi, not by other manufacturers.

In Japan, it is available in Mitsubishi AXIEZ and NEXCUBE elevators. In the U.S., it is only available in Mitsubishi Diamond HS (it was previously available in the North American Mitsubishi GPM-III until 2018).

Trivia

  • According to Hong Kong based elevator information site "hkelev.com", DOAS works faster than Schindler Miconic 10 and Schindler PORT.[4]
  • In the world of elevator enthusiasm, the DOAS elevator system was first filmed by Vincent561967 in Glouchester Tower, The Landmark, Central, Hong Kong[5].
  • DOAS is the second type of destination dispatch system installed in Hong Kong[4] and Indonesia.
  • The first DOAS elevators with Integrated DOAS - Security Gate system in the world was installed in ThePlaza Office Tower, Jakarta, Indonesia in 2009[6][7].
  • When the handicap/accessibility mode is available and activated, automated voices will be played to guide visually impaired people. However, they did not meet the Hong Kong's "Design Manual - Barrier Free Access 2008 (BFA 2008)" standard which was revised in September 2015[8] for destination dispatch until The Quayside in Kwun Tong is completed in 2019. Some of the known voices heard in Mitsubishi DOAS are:
    • Version for other countries:
      • Enter the destination floor desired - after the handicap button is pressed.
      • (Number) floor, the floor selected is not available - after entering the desired floor but outside the group serving.

    • Version for the United States:
      • Choose floor (the range of the floors serving in this group), swipe card or enter desired floor[10] or presenting credential[11][12] - after the handicap button is pressed.
