On escalators, an energy-saving mode is a mode where the escalator runs slowly or even stops in order to save energy.
When no passenger has been detected for a set amount of time, the escalator will run slower than normal, which saves on energy the motor requires to power the escalator. On some models (such as certain Schindler 9300 AE escalators), the escalator will even stop running, meaning a greater amount of energy saved.
