Elevator emergency automatic rescue device

Elevator emergency automatic rescue device is a special device installed in an elevator which is only used during an event of a power failure or blackout in a building. An elevator emergency landing device is useful for preventing passengers from becoming trapped inside an elevator during a power failure. All newly-installed elevators must have elevator emergency landing devices implemented before an elevator examination can pass.

How it works

Upon power failure, an elevator equipped with this device automatically moves and stops at the nearest floor using a rechargeable battery (or uninterruptible power supply also known as a UPS), and the doors will then open to ensure any onboard passengers' safety.

Devices in Mitsubishi elevators

There are two types of emergency landing devices equipped in Mitsubishi elevators; Operation by Emergency Power Source (OEPS) and Mitsubishi Emergency Landing Device (MELD).

Operation by Emergency Power Source (OEPS)

With OEPS, the elevators operate using an emergency power source during a power failure in order to prevent passengers from being trapped inside the elevator cars. When the power is restored, the elevators will resume normal operation.

With supervision panel

• OEPS SW and Return / Cont. SW are provided with Supervisory Panel.

• Return Floor is a floor designated by each customer in advance, or the nearest floor.

• OEPS SW shall remain set to AUTO position under normal conditions. If some cars do not automatically travel to Return Floor due to some abnormality, then switch should be set to MANUAL and the elevator should be operated manually.
